A Haunted Hotel?
The historic Hotel Alex Johnson has long been known as one of the most haunted hotels in South Dakota. From the “lady in white” to the ghost of Alex Johnson himself, there have been countless reports of spooky activity.
The Alex Johnson has become so well known for reported hauntings that the SyFy Channel’s hit show “Ghost Hunters” traveled to Rapid City to do a special segment on the hotel.
The investigators reported that they experienced significant paranormal activity throughout the hotel.
THE LADY IN WHITE
The most popular and reported ghost story of the Hotel Alex Johnson is that of the Lady in White. During the 1970’s, it was reported that a young bride committed suicide by flinging herself out of the window of room 812. Those that knew the young woman insisted there was foul play, stating that she was much too happy and friendly to commit such an act. The fact that she was to inherit a large sum of money only strengthened their argument. Yet, no one was ever convicted of her murder and the suicide ruling stood firm.
Today, guests claim the young bride wanders the halls of the eighth floor in a white gown, searching for those responsible for her death. It has been reported that the window of room 812 is often found open in the morning and that dresser drawers are taken out, turned upside down and put back in place.

ALEX JOHNSON
Some guests have reported seeing the ghost of Alex Johnson himself. It is thought that since his death in 1938 he has stayed on the premises to ensure operations are still running smoothly.
THE YOUNG GIRL
Some guests of the eighth floor of the hotel have reported that the ghost of a young girl would knock on their door, night after night, only to disappear in the hallway. She's also been heard giggling down the hallway.

About Us
Policies And Procedures
Please read the following hotel policies and procedures carefully. The staff at Hotel Alex Johnson would like to thank you for adhering to these policies and procedures during your stay with us.
At the time of check-in, you will be required to read and sign the hotel policy agreement, therefore agreeing to abide by the policies and procedures listed below.
RESERVATIONS
Reservations are only guaranteed at the time of a pre-paid deposit by means of cash, check, or credit card and after such will be guaranteed all night. We require 48 hours advance cancellation notice for individual arrivals. If the required cancellation notice is not received, the guest will be charged for one night’s stay. All remaining days will be released unless the signed contract indicates otherwise.
Quoted rates do not include taxes of 9% + $2 Occupancy Tax + Historic Preservation Fee per room per night. All rooms are based on availability and certain restrictions could apply. Guests must be at least twenty-one years of age or be accompanied by someone at least twenty-one years of age to check in. Safety deposit boxes are available at the front desk for guest use, and off-street parking is available for guests of the hotel.

CHECK-IN
Check-in time is 4 PM daily. Exceptions are made per the advanced notice to the hotel staff. All room night fees are due upon check-in by cash or credit card. A cash deposit will be noted on the registration form that will act as the receipt of deposit for the guest.
CHECK-OUT
Check-out time is 11 AM without exceptions, unless provided by the hotel clerk per advanced notice. If a guest occupies the room past 11 AM they will be charged an additional night’s rate. Cash deposit is to be refunded upon check-out.
CANCELLATIONS & REFUNDS
If an individual cancels their reservation more than 48 hours prior to their stay, they will not be charged a fee by the hotel. If pre-payments have been paid via another third party provider, the guest will have to contact that company to request a refund under their stated policies.
If a guest cancels within 48 hours of their scheduled stay, they will be charged for the first night’s stay.
SMOKING
Smoking is prohibited in all non-smoking rooms and in all public areas of the hotel. A $200 fine will be applied to the account for those who smoke in a non-smoking room.
PET POLICY
The Hotel Alex Johnson is one of the few pet friendly hotels in Rapid City, SD. If you require a pet-friendly room, a fee of $50 will be charged to the reserved account. Be sure to check out our Pampered Pooch package.
CASINO POLICY
Guests must be at least twenty-one years of age to enter the casino in Paddy O’Neill’s Irish Pub. Those who enter the casino will be asked to show valid proof of age. Anyone attempting to enter the casino that does not follow the age restriction limit will be immediately asked to leave.
