We are proud to share that Michelle Thomson, President & CEO of the Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association (BH&B), was honored with the Woman’s Choice Award at the Outstanding Women in Business Awards Luncheon, hosted by the South Dakota Center for Enterprise Opportunity (SD CEO) Women’s Business Center.

Michelle was nominated for the Enterprising Woman Intrapreneur Award, which recognizes women making innovative and impactful contributions within an organization. While she was not selected as the recipient of that specific award, she was surprised and honored with the Woman’s Choice Award—a meaningful recognition voted on by attendees of the luncheon.

Being selected by her peers speaks to the appreciation for Michelle’s dedication to supporting the tourism industry, regional businesses, and the communities she serves. She attended the event alongside BH&B teammates Ara Baumstarck and Hayli Hull, as well as BH&B board chair Carrie Gerlach. The luncheon celebrated the leadership, resilience, and contributions of women in business across South Dakota.

“It was truly an honor to be nominated among such an accomplished group of women,” said Michelle. “Receiving the Woman’s Choice Award, especially knowing it came from the votes of fellow attendees, made it all the more special. I’m proud to represent the Black Hills & Badlands and the incredible work we’re doing together to promote our region.”

For 85 years, Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association has been dedicated to promoting tourism throughout the region, helping hundreds of businesses—many of them small and locally owned—thrive. Beyond attracting visitors, BH&B’s mission is rooted in strengthening communities and enhancing quality of life for residents through a vibrant tourism economy. Events like the Outstanding Women in Business Awards Luncheon shine a spotlight on the vital role small businesses and strong, forward-thinking leadership play in building a successful and resilient regional economy. In addition, Michelle is the first women President/CEO in BH&B's history.

Please join us in congratulating Michelle—and all of the award recipients—on their well-deserved recognition, and in celebrating the women who continue to elevate South Dakota’s business landscape.
