In 2026, the United States will commemorate its 250th anniversary—a once-in-a-generation milestone to celebrate the nation’s history, culture, and spirit. As this important year approaches, BH&B is partnering with Travel South Dakota to help identify events across the state that reflect a strong sense of Americana and pride in our country.
We want to make sure the Black Hills & Badlands region is well represented during this national celebration. Events that showcase the rich heritage, traditions, and iconic experiences of our area will play an important role in drawing visitors and telling South Dakota’s story. These events don’t need to take place around the 4th of July; they can occur anytime in 2026, as long as they carry a theme of patriotism, cultural pride, or uniquely South Dakotan identity.
Examples of fitting events include long-standing traditions like the Buffalo Roundup, Riverboat Days, or Christmas at the Capitol—which will feature an “America 250” theme in 2026. We’re looking for events, large or small, that celebrate our shared values, honor our state’s past, and help visitors connect to something greater.
If your business is involved in or aware of any 2026 events that align with this theme—whether you host them, sponsor them, or know of events happening in your area—we’d love to hear from you. This is a great opportunity to promote your community and contribute to a national spotlight on South Dakota.
Please share your event ideas or details with us at your earliest convenience. Together, we can help make sure our region shines during America’s 250th.
