The Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota is full of truly monumental places and experiences. Show us the best photos and videos from your vacation. Whether it’s visiting the region’s parks and monuments, exploring hidden gems, sightseeing on scenic drives, close-up wildlife encounters, making memories at fun attractions, enjoying a memorable meal or quiet moments at a campsite, we want to see it.
The top photo and video entry showcasing your epic vacation experiences will receive a prize worth $200.
Prize Sponsor
The winner(s) of this month's contest will receive a prize sponsored by Deadwood Gulch Resort that includes:
- 2 night stay
- $20 free play in casino
- A free appetizer at Bostons Restaurant and Sports Bar
- and some swag!
IMPORTANT: Limit one submission per content type (photo or video) per month.
Only the first submission per content type will be considered.
Winner Selection & Notification
An album with the top photo and video submissions will be published on the last Friday of the month. Voting begins at 12 a.m. MT on the last Friday of each month and ends at 11:59 p.m. MT on the Sunday following the last Friday of the month.
The photo and video with the most votes are the winners. Winners will be notified via the email provided on the submission form. The business that is sponsoring the monthly contest will arrange to deliver the prize to the winners.
Selection Criteria
- Creativity: The photo/video is unique, interesting and original
- Composition: The photo/video arranges the object, landscape, people, and subjects in a pleasant way
- Relevancy: The photo/video captures the experience of traveling in and through the Black Hills and Badlands of South Dakota and the Black Hills of Wyoming
- Quality: The photo/video is in focus, the lighting is balanced or intentional
- Overall Impression/Impact: The photo/video is compelling, and impactful and leaves a memorable impression
Rules & Regulations
- Entry is limited to original works for which the entrant holds all applicable rights.
- Submissions are accepted through 11:59 pm MT on the 21st of the month. Any submissions received after the 21st will be considered for the following month's contest.
- Winners will be announced the first week of the following month.
- Photos will not be considered if a participant has won in the previous month. At least one Monumental Moments contest campaign period must pass before being eligible to win again.
- Submit photos in JPEG format, no larger than 10MB and no smaller than 500KB.
- Submit videos in MP4 or MOV format and shot in at least 720p quality, no larger than 256MB.
- All photographs must be taken in the Black Hills and Badlands regions of South Dakota, which includes the Black Hills of Wyoming.
