Mount Rushmore National Memorial is America’s Shrine of Democracy. It is only fitting that it should be featured as part of the nation’s Independence Day celebrations.

Several special activities and events are planned for July 3 at the Memorial. To protect the health of those who live, work, and visit our national parks and facilities, and in support of the President’s Executive Order on Protecting the Federal Workforce and Requiring Mask-Wearing, face masks are now required in all NPS buildings and facilities. Masks are also required on NPS-managed lands when physical distancing cannot be maintained, such as narrow or busy trails, overlooks, and parking lots.

Presidential reenactors George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln, and Theodore Roosevelt will be roving the park throughout the day from 11:00 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Each president will present talks about their presidency, pose for photographs, and provide autographs. Presidential talks will be in the Lincoln Borglum Visitor Center Theater B.

Sequoia Crosswhite, a musician, storyteller, historian, and member of the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe, will provide music and stories at the Youth Exploration Area.

The park is open during regular hours on July 4. There will not be a fireworks display held at Mount Rushmore National Memorial, however there will be multiple fireworks displays in the surrounding communities on July 4.

Please check this website often for updates to programing and additional COVID precautions at the park. The NPS expects everyone who works in or visits national parks to wear a face mask outside on NPS-managed lands where physical distancing cannot be maintained and in all federal buildings. Individuals who violate this requirement may be subject to citations as appropriate.
