1st Annual Lakota Food Summit

  • 1st Annual Lakota Food Summit
Event Date:
Tuesday, February 18, 2020 (All day) to Thursday, February 20, 2020 (All day)

The 1st Annual Lakota Food Summit is all about food sovereignty, tradition, culture and community education.  Topics covered by the speakers at this convention will include Food Sovereignty, Traditional Foods, Gardening, Nutrition, Food Processing, and so much more.  The Lakota Food Summit will also feature a chef cook-off presented by Sean Sherman Sioux Chef, two different drum groups, and a hoop dancing performance, tipis, traditional hand games, and youth posters from the local community during the first day that is open to the public.

The Lakota Food Sovereignty Coalition came up with the idea to host this summit during their monthly meetings, and it is finally happening! This is the first Lakota Food summit to ever be put on, and we could not be more excited to have the opportunity to show everyone what food sovereignty means to the Lakota Oyate.
