The Black Hills and Badlands come to life in the summer season. With wildflowers in bloom and our favorite trails open for hiking and biking, those seeking adventures will find endless opportunities in our neck of the woods.

The longer days and warmer weather welcome outdoor concerts, lively street festivals and Wild West rodeo action throughout the region. Read on for a taste of the many events that make the Black Hills and Badlands a go-to destination all summer long.

June Events

34th Annual Spring Volksmarch
Saturday, June 1, 2019 to Sunday, June 2, 2019

The bi-annual Crazy Horse Volksmarch (an organized hike) is a 10K or 6.2-mile woodlands ramble to the world’s largest mountain carving in progress in the southern Black Hills of South Dakota.

Wild Bill Days
Friday, June 14, 2019 to Saturday, June 15, 2019

Celebrate the life and times of Deadwood’s most famous gunslinger—Wild Bill Hickok. See big name artists and your favorite bands perform live concerts on Main Street all weekend long. FREE concert headliners for 2019 will be announced soon.

About the Author

Morgan is the Communications Director at Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association. She grew up in Minnetonka, Minnesota, where she developed a deep love for the outdoors and adventure. She followed her heart to the mountains and received a Bachelor of Arts in Media Studies from the University of Colorado - Boulder. Her inquisitive nature led her to uncover the many treasures the Black Hills have to offer. She has called them home since 2014.
