The 10th Annual Black Hill Film Festival, May 1st – May 5th, 2019 features more than 20 films including narrative and documentary films from South Dakota and around the world.

With three rings of affordable family fun, "The Shrine Circus" will thrill fans of all ages. Come see the death-defying aerial acts, animal attractions including tigers and elephants.

Sturgis Volksmarch

The 2019 Sturgis Volksmarch is Saturday, May 11 throughout Sturgis. Start the 5K or 10K walk anytime between 8 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. The starting point will be at the Recut Road Parking Lot. Registration is $3. Wheelchairs and strollers are allowed. Pets on a leash are welcome.

6th Annual Black Hills Sound of Silence Tesla Road Trip Rally
Friday, May 17, 2019 to Sunday, May 19, 2019

50 Teslas – $5 million in cars – are making a road trip to Custer, SD on May 17th. The Custer Area Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring the Tesla Road Trip.

This event is the sixth annual Tesla Road Trip Rally and still the only one of its kind in the United States.

State Parks Open House and Free Fishing Weekend
Friday, May 17, 2019 to Sunday, May 19, 2019

This weekend, enjoy free entrance into all South Dakota state parks and recreation areas. In addition, a number of parks will be hosting special events to kick off the summer. Camping fees still apply. This weekend is also Free Fishing Weekend. No fishing licenses are required.

Memorial Day Weekend

Beginning Memorial Day weekend, watch two of the Black Hills most treasured monuments light up after dark.

Legends in Light Laser Show
Friday, May 24, 2019 to Sunday, September 29, 2019

“Legends in Light” the Crazy Horse Memorial® multimedia laser-light show is presented nightly, at dark, from Memorial Day weekend through September 29th. The laser-light show effectively turns the mountainside into a giant 500-foot “screen” for the spectacular display.

Evening Lighting Ceremony at Mount Rushmore
Friday, May 31, 2019 to Monday, September 30, 2019

This program consists of a ranger talk, veteran recognition, and the lighting of the sculpture as the audience sings the National Anthem.

Military and veterans may participate in a flag-folding ceremony.

An evening lighting ceremony is held May-August and in September nightly.
