The post-holiday struggle is real. It’s January – the snow keeps coming but it doesn’t have that magical sparkle anymore, all the shiny Christmas lights have come down, and it’s time to start making some life changes. Well, we can’t help you with the snow (it is South Dakota after all). However, we can offer a new year’s resolution for you and a solution on how to achieve it. This year, we recommend you adopt the new year’s resolution to get out more. Get out and see the sights, experience the events, and enjoy the outdoors.

Taste the Black Hills
The Black Hills offers a variety of food for you to taste. From buffalo meat and Indian tacos to the official state dessert, kuchen, there is something for every taste bud. This month, take part in four different events centered around the great food of South Dakota that allow you to taste some of the unique things that our communities have to offer.

Downtown Rapid City Restaurant Week | Jan. 11 to 19, 2019
Taste of Sturgis | Jan. 11, 2019 | 5:30 to 8 p.m.
Breakin’ the Winter Blues Chili Cook-Off | Hill City | Jan. 19, 2019 | 11 a.m.
Taste of Spearfish | Jan. 28, 2019 | 5 p.m.

Get Outdoors
As the new year starts, most of us want to get more exercise. We've got an easy way for you to accomplish your goal—outdoor events throughout the Black Hills in January. There are guided snowshoe hikes in Custer State Park, the annual Lunar Run at Terry Peak Ski Area in Lead, and even a Winter Carnival with free skiing in Spearfish. For all of the fresh-air fun, take a look at our events calendar.

Enjoy Unique Events
The Black Hills and Badlands offer an exceptional variety of events every month for visitors and locals alike. There is never a dull moment here. Here are some of the events taking place in January:

Winterfest | Jan. 18, 2019 | Lead
Enjoy a fun three-day snow bash that celebrates all things winter and skiing. Take part in fun, family-friendly events on and off the mountain in the best ski town in the Black Hills.

Burning Beetle | Jan. 19, 2019 | Custer
The Burning Beetle is an annual event that focuses on connecting to the environment that we live in and benefits the local arts community. Events include a community talent show, Beetle Burn, fireworks, and a pub crawl with live music at various restaurants and bars.

Deadwood Snocross Pro Races | Jan. 25 & 26, 2019 | Deadwood
It’s the greatest show on snow! Watch as 150 of the top professional Snocross racers descend on Deadwood for a weekend of high-flying, high-speed, high-octane snowmobile racing.

K9 Keg Pull | Jan. 26, 2019 | Deadwood
You’ve never seen a party until you’ve seen a Deadwood party – each featuring a unique spectacle, never-before-seen. This year, check out the K9 Keg Pull where dogs of various sizes will compete to pull kegs down Main Street in Deadwood. Dogs will wear a harness attached to an appropriately sized keg. May the fastest dog win!

This is your year to achieve your resolutions! For more awesome events going on in January and throughout the year, check out our events calendar.
