Once a year, the Black Hills between Keystone & Hill City are magically transformed into the North Pole. Santa takes a break from his work and planning to cast a spell over the Black Hills Central Railroad and even makes an appearance on all of the Holiday Express routes.

Starting November 24th and running on select days until December 23rd, the 1880 Train will be hosting its Holiday Express. This trip is a one-hour, round trip excursion that includes hot cocoa, a sugar cookie, a special story, and a unique gift for each child delivered by Santa himself. In the middle of the journey you will get to experience the magic of the North Pole before heading back to Hill City.

For the adults out there that want to enjoy the Christmas spirit they have a Holiday Express "Spiked" trip as well.  Enjoy spiked hot chocolate instead of regular, a cookie, and a keepsake thermal cup. Additional drinks and food are available for purchase on the train. The Spiked trips only happen on select days, and unfortunately are already sold out for 2017.  It's definitely something you’ll want to keep on the radar for next year, and book early!

The 1880 Train was created to help new generations experience and enjoy the steam locomotive technology, and to show the vital role they played in United States history. You can ride the rails daily on the 1880 Train between Hill City & Keystone throughout the summer months as well as ten additional special train trips.

If you can’t make the Holiday Express this year, but it sounds like something you’d like, be sure to check out their 2018 schedule for other unique steam locomotive offerings. It's sure to bring a festive spirit to young and old!
