More than 53 million Americans have a disability. 1 in 4 of people will be disabled in their working lifetime. If one of your employees becomes disabled, do you as a business owner know where to find accommodations? Or, do you understand the state and federal laws and guidelines for disabilities or a leave of absence from an injury or sickness?

Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association is partnering with Workforce Diversity Network of the Black Hills to host a free Lunch & Learn on Disabilities in the Workplace at the Black Hills Visitor Information Center on Monday, March 25, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Experts on employing individuals with disabilities, Kathleen Barrow and Catherine Greseth, will:

  • Help you understand the benefits of hiring persons with disabilities.
  • Bring you up to speed on the latest laws.
  • Give you a better understanding of compliance and programs.
  • Answer your questions.

Kathleen Barrow is an expert attorney in employment law with almost three decades of experience helping employers. She was voted as one of the 40 Best Employment Lawyers in America from 2013 to 2019. She is a member of the South Dakota Bar Association and is also licensed to practice law in Texas, Oklahoma, North Dakota, and Nebraska.

Catherine Greseth, Executive Director of the Workforce Diversity Network of the Black Hills, will help you understand the importance of retaining an employee that reveals a disability or becomes disabled. With a shortage of available employees, keeping good employees is a must. Put your business miles ahead of the competition by looking at abilities, not disabilities, when hiring.

To register for the Disabilities in the Workplace Lunch & Learn, RSVP to ara@blackhillsbadlands.com by Friday, March 22. This Lunch & Learn is free, and lunch is included.
