From Hill City, SD
Go west on Deerfield Road (Forest Service Rd. 17) which starts at the Exxon Station, Heart of the Hills Convenience Store. You will come to a fork in the highway, turn left and continue to follow Deerfield Road. (For a total of 9 miles from Hill City to East Slate Road.) Then turn left onto East Slate Road (County 309) and follow for 4 1/2 miles. You will come to a "Y" intersection on the gravel road. Take a slight right onto Gillette Prairie Road and follow to the Alexander's Slate Rock Ranch (which is on your right) about 1/2 mile.
Alexander's Slate Rock Ranch
A Black Hills working cattle ranch offering furnished cabins, microwaves and gas grills. Check out the large and small cabins that are perfect for summer visitors, hunters, fishermen or snowmobilers.
The Ranch has properties surrounded by thousands of acres of National Forest land where outdoor enthusiats can roam and play. There is unlimited hiking, biking and horseback riding. Deerfield Lake is just 4 miles from the main ranch with great fishing and hunting. Wildlife is bountiful where you can see deer, elk and turkeys in their native habitat. Winter enthusiasts will enjoy the adjacent snowmobile trail. Corrals and feed are furnished for visitors with horses.

Mickelson Trail Lodge
Located just 2 miles from Hill City, this cabin is about 200 feet from the Mickelson Trail. A creek runs through the property and is perfect for fishing and for children to wade with adult supervision. The cabin has 3 bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, a King and two Queen beds, plus a loft with 3 single beds. There is also a deck and a patio with a gas grill.
Cedar Creek Side House
This new addition has 3 bedrooms 2 1/2 bathrooms with a full-size kitchen, 2 dining rooms and living room with an extra sitting room. Outside you will find that the view consists of deer and elk that come into the field across from the house, a hiking trail behind the house and a basketball hoop in the driveway. In addition, this unit offers a washer and dryer and a grill on the deck.
Creek Side Bungalow
This new addition is next to the Cedar Creek Side house and has 2 bedrooms and 1 bathroom with a kitchen and dining area that overlooks the fields below where you can see deer and elk. There is also a hiking trail behind the house and a basketball hoop in the driveway. In addition, this unit offers a grill on the deck.
Log Cabin
This small log cabin was built at the turn of the century, around 1910. It has been well preserved and remodeled into a modern cabin. Accommodations include a full size bed and queen size hide-a-bed. The cabin has new carpet, a gas fireplace, full kitchen and a gas grill on the deck.
Large Wildlife Ranch Unit
The cabin is perfect for larger groups. It features 3 bedrooms, 2 full baths, a full size kitchen and 2 dining areas. Sleep accommodations include 1 King, 1 Queen and 1 Double bed. There are also Queen size hide-a-beds in both the living rooms and the family room. Unit offers a washer and dryer. Enjoy cooking steaks or burgers on the grill located on the deck.
The Eagles View Cabin
This nicely secluded cabin is located less than 1/2 mile from the main ranch headquarters. It features 3 bedrooms plus sleeper in the living room and 1 bath. There is a stove in the living room and a grill on the deck.
