Just 18 miles from Mt Rushmore is Crazy Horse Memorial, a mountain carving in progress dedicated to the Great Sioux Nation. Just a few miles south of Mt Rushmore and next door to Custer City is the 73,000 acre Custer State Park, home to the largest free roaming buffalo herd in the country. Also within the boundaries of the Black Hills is the underground world of Wind Cave National Park and America's first national monument, Devils Tower. Just east of the Black Hills is Badlands National Park.
