A Taste of Americana
Other museums in the Black Hills region display a diverse interest in American culture. Here are some examples sure to enhance your vacation experience. Conveyances – historic, beautiful and weird – dominate collections at the Pioneer Auto Show, Murdo; at the SD Air & Space Museum at Ellsworth Air Force Base; and at the Sturgis Motorcycle Museum. A patriotic affection for presidents shows in the National Presidential Wax Museum in Keystone. Gutzon Borglum, the man who carved Mount Rushmore, is the focus of Keystone’s Rushmore Borglum Story. Architectural woodcarving and fine art woodcarvings lend distinction to Chapel in the Hills in Rapid City and National Museum of Woodcarving in Custer.
For both whimsy and Americana, The Corn Palace in Mitchell is a must-see on any South Dakota road trip.
