Jewel Cave National Monument is the home of the third longest cave in the world.

Jewel Cave National Monument is the home of the third longest cave in the world. (They've now mapped 181.16 total miles!) But it's not just below ground that's full up new updates for 2016—there is a new park store addition that will be completed later this spring.

As of March 7, the park is now officially open seven days a week, where visitors can immerse themselves within an underground wilderness of fragile formations and glimpses of brilliant color. The cave's maze of passages lure explorers, and its scientific wealth remains a mystery. This resource is truly a jewel in the National Park Service. Guided cave tours are currently offered Wednesdays through Sundays, while some maintenance projects in the cave occur on Mondays and Tuesdays. It's the perfect time to come visit and see all the new changes before the summer crowds are here.
