Black Hills & Badlands Tourism Association (BH&B) hosted its 34th annual “Lit Swap” on Wednesday, May 3, at the Rushmore Plaza Civic Center in Rapid City.

The Lit Swap served as both an industry kick-off for the upcoming peak season and the Association’s way to celebrate National Travel and Tourism Week, observed May 7-13, 2017. The event provided businesses the chance to distribute their visitor industry brochures and magazines to other area businesses as well as South Dakota’s Department of Tourism Welcome Centers located along I-90 and I-29, in advance of their May 15 season opening.

Wednesday’s activities began at 2 p.m. when more than 250 tourism workers from 125 businesses  “swapped ‘til they dropped” in the Civic Center’s Rushmore Rooms C & D. The trading action heated up as tourism operators with handcarts, wheelbarrows, and wagons exchanged thousands of brochures with each other.

In conjunction with the Lit Swap, BH&B also hosted the 4th annual “Business-to-Business Mingle & Mix” in Rushmore Room B, where attendees had the chance to visit with several BH&B Corporate Partners about their products and services that supply the industry. The event concluded with a season kick-off party along with several door prizes.

The event was generously sponsored by Badlands Media, Certified Folder Display Service, and Simpsons Printing. The Association would also like to thank the local media for featuring the event in their news coverage, including KOTA Territory News, KEVN Newscenter1, KNBN Black Hills Fox, and KSLT Radio.
